Life isn’t always perfect. Things don’t always go our way, and it’s easy to get caught up in what’s missing. But over the years, I’ve learned something simple and powerful: you can’t get more in life if you’re not grateful for what you already have.
Your job may feel small, but someone else is dreaming of having it. Your warm bed is a blessing that someone else is wishing for while sleeping on the street. Gratitude has completely shifted how I see my life – and it can shift yours too.
Here’s how I practice gratitude every day, and how it has shaped my life and family:
1. Morning Moments of Thanks
Before I even pick up my phone, I pause and thank God for a new day. Even if the day ahead feels overwhelming, this small practice sets a positive tone and reminds me that every day is a gift.
2. My Gratitude Journal

Each night, I write in my gratitude journal – big and small things alike. Sometimes it’s a meaningful conversation, other times it’s a warm cup of tea. These reflections remind me how blessed I am and shift my mindset from scarcity to abundance.
3. Teaching My Kids About Gratitude
Gratitude isn’t just for adults. I make it a point to show my kids how to notice the blessings in their own lives. We talk about the good things that happened during the day and celebrate the little joys. It’s a habit that teaches them to see life’s abundance, not just its challenges.
4. Lessons from My Upbringing
I feel grateful to have grown up in a home where my needs were met. But what shaped me most was watching my parents give selflessly – fostering children, helping neighbours, and encouraging us to serve. Their example taught me that gratitude and generosity go hand in hand.
5. Gratitude Changes Your Perspective
Gratitude doesn’t make life perfect – it makes life richer. It helps you see the blessings hidden in the everyday, softens stress, brightens your outlook, and opens your heart to more joy and opportunities. Life becomes full of abundance because you’ve learned to notice it.
